Caregiver Spotlight #3 – Nurse Next Door Ottawa
Lynne Ladouceur, Ottawa
Please share about who you are, where you are from, how long have you been with Nurse Next Door?
I am a proud mother of two boys, my oldest just finished his master’s degree and the other is still in high school. I have been living in Ottawa for almost 30 years now but I am originally from Aylmer, Quebec.
I have been a caregiver for over 35 years and I have always loved working with the elderly, I consider it my life calling. I have been with Nurse Next Door Ottawa for 7 years and 3 months and will be approaching my retirement next month.
What makes you love coming to work?
Everyday is a joy. I love going to see my client who I have been working with for years now. Seeing his smile and even getting to speak to the other facility staff who are so friendly makes my day. They tell me whenever I come in for my visit that I am always smiling and it makes me feel good.
Tell us a Happier Aging story you had with a client and what made it special?
In 2017 the franchise owner and another one of his caregivers at the time took my client to a brewery for his 95th birthday. His wish was to have half a glass of beer and some pumpkin pie and he was so happy. We also gave him a pink fedora to wear and had giant pink ‘95’ balloons for him!
What advice would you give to new Caregivers starting in the industry?
To be a successful caregiver, you need to be truly passionate about what you are
doing. Pick a company that you love that has a positive culture, like Nurse Next Door. If you have the passion, absolutely go for it.
