Caregiver Spotlight - Donna Burkatsky | Kamloops, BC

Give us a quick run down on who you are, where you are from, how long have you been with Nurse Next Door?

I have lived in Kamloops most of my life and raised my family here. I enjoy the outdoors, hiking and gardening are two of my favourite hobbies. I have worked in healthcare, in various roles, for more than 30 years. I have worked for Nurse Next Door for two years and am really having fun in my role as a caregiver.

What do you love most about your job?

I like meeting people and helping them fulfill their dreams and goals. My job also allows me a healthy work /life balance so I can pursue my own dreams and goals.

What is your favourite memory with a client?

I have many great memories, this is one of those. One of my clients was very fond of shopping for very specific, unique items. Our shopping trips were similar to a treasure hunt. If we did find that special item, we would celebrate like we won the lottery!

What does Happier Aging mean to you?

It means, as much as possible, maintaining independence and health while continuing to enjoy what is most important in your life.

What advice would you give to new Caregivers starting in the industry?

Spend time listening to your clients and watching for cues.
