Nurse Next Door has been an invaluable backup for our family. Our parents moved to Vancouver after my mother had a devestating stroke. She is bedridden now, needing 24 hour care. We have a wonderful group of caregivers that have been with us for over 15 years but when one of them can't come I am never in a panic....I simply pick up the phone and within minutes a capable person from Nurse Next Door is there ready to fill in.

When a person relies completely on a caregiver for everything it is such a relief to both the invalid and their family knowing that a qualified, supportive and congenial replacement is easily available. Nurse Next Door is a lifesaver!

“ After having 5 nannies specializing in newborns in and firing them all, I was very concerned about hiring another caregiver.  We decided to go with  Nurse Next Door and their caregiver Mimi on a trial basis.  I have never looked back.  Mimi is the most incredible, loyal, hardworking, dedicated and loving woman our family could have hoped for.  The care and love your caregiver gives our son is equivalent to the love an immediate family member would give.  This in itself is priceless.  Further, she goes above and beyond in every single task she approaches.  She simply anticipates every and any need our family might have, and then acts on it immediately and to my chagrin, does every single thing she approached absolutely perfectly.
In 5 months that Mimi has been with our family she has never once been late and never once missed a day.  Every moment she has been with us has been with a smile on her face and a song in her heart.  She is a once in a million star, Mimi is the best thing that could ever happen to a family.”

Nurse Next Door was there for me when I needed them the most.  I called them one night, exhausted from caregiving for my spouse who was dying of cancer.  They had someone at my house within a few hours.  As soon as their wonderful caregiver Mercedes walked in the door, I knew everything would be better.  She immediately took my spouse’s hand, told him that he would be OK and that she would be there for him all night.  She then proceeded to massage his hands, feet and shoulders –I had not seen him so relaxed in weeks.  I slept for the first time in weeks that night and she kept coming and supporting us until he passed away.

Staff @ Nurse Next Door,
Your help and assistance in this challenging period is greatly appreciated.  Our entire family extends our thanks for all you have done.  We all hope our mother, Nora, has the speediest of recoveries and her success is very much due to your help.
Thank you again,

This letter is a thank you  to your organization for their professional care for my recovery after a serious accident in July of 2004.  After my stay in four hospitals over a four month period I was allowed to go home but was told I would require home nursing assistance.  Your organization provided excellent help and I only wish to thank you and your staff.
Vlady Meert and her assistant Ethel came to my home on a regular basis to dress my wounds and keep track of my progress.  They were professional and comforting at a time I was going through a bad period.  I felt that they took an honest interest in my welfare and I now consider both of them friends.
Keep up the good work.  Our medical system is stressed to the limit these days and the baby boomers are hitting the age where medical attention will be part of their lives.  There will be a real need for home care in the future and your organization has shown it is up to the call of duty.

I was first introduced to Nurse Next Door in October 2002 by your lovely nurse Victoria, when my wife was discharged from Holy Family Hospital.  Nurse Next Door was highly recommended by the social worker.  The choice was either extended care or stay at home with support.  My wife was still fairly mobile at this time.  We were supplied with a very competent caregiver (actually, she was a Russian doctor).  When she left Nurse Next Door to devote more time to her studies, Anita  became our primary caregiver on Dec. 24, 2002.  For the first few months we only needed a caregiver for a few hours a week.  As my wife’s condition deteriorated, more time was needed to care for her.  By April 2003 she was confined to a wheelchair.  She was diagnosed with ALS in May 2003.  Anita was extremely helpful and caring.  She made sure that my wife did her exercises and took her out in the park, whenever possible.  By this time we required a caregiver 6 or 7 days a week.  Anita made sure that we had a Happy Christmas in 2003.  Little did we know that this would be Annette’s last Christmas.  Nurse Next Door caregivers supplied when Anita was away on holidays were excellent.  When Annette was placed on the government supported hospice program, caregivers from two different companies were supplied to help out in the evenings.  None of these caregivers were as qualified as those of Nurse Next Door.  Two were barely adequate and had to be terminated after one shift.  During the six months my wife was on the hospice program she needed more and more help.  Anita was right there at all times and had herself checked out on the BIPAP and other equipment, as well, she had a very good relationship with our family doctor.  I am sure she helped my wife spiritually.  Anita promised my wife that she would look after me when she passed away and that is what Anita is doing.

Loving husband and caregiver

From time to time some of the residents in our building have mentioned that my caregivers (Anita and presently Yasuko) are such fine people and ask what agency they work for.  I have no hesitation in recommending Nurse Next Door to them.

NURSE NEXT DOOR has been supplying caregivers to me and my wife for over three years now.  All of the home support workers were competent, compassionate and willing to meet the needs of their client, always in a very professional manner.  I always enjoyed the home visits from Care Manager Kathy L and the phone visits with the behind the scenes essential workers.  I especially enjoyed talking to Karin W. – such a warm, friendly voice.  Thank you Nurse Next Door for everything.

It was wonderful to have our family with us on Saturday and Mercedes was there at night to settle my husband for the night.  Your services have been wonderful.  It is not an easy task to find the right person to care for a sick patient and you have done such a wonderful job.  We are most grateful.  Thanks for your thoughtfulness.

Every once in a while we are reminded how small acts of kindness can change a person’s outlook on life. I was touched when one of our Nurse Next Door team members called to invite myself to our client’s birthday party. The two caregivers who coordinated the birthday party have been doing a live in with the same client for over a year. Our client does not have a lot of family in town and has lost touch with old friends over the years due to the progression of her Alzheimer's. Our Nurse Next Door team members came in on their time off, called our client’s old friends and family and invited them to her birthday party. I arrived to the party and noticed that there were bundles of fresh flowers out for the guests to enjoy, there were numerous kinds of baked goods that the caregivers had made and finger foods set out on crystal platters. The presentation was spectacular. I witnessed our clients face light up when her old neighbours arrived and shared with her times they had shared in the past. Without our Nurse Next Door team members arranging this party our client’s birthday would have gone unnoticed and resembled any other day of the year. Instead, they celebrated her and her day and made it special for everyone involved.

Hi John and Ken,
Just wanted to thank you both for the opportunity to meet your dynamic team and have a very interesting and informative day at your Vancouver office. It is gratifying to see what is possible when smart minds work together. If I were to describe Nurse Next Door in one word it would be “nimble”!
Your enthusiasm is infectious.  I have found healthcare in these past few years to be such a challenging field to work in, but you guys make it fun.  Thank you for the experience!
